Although both myself and Stew are meat eaters, we love to eat vegetarian food. In fact, on average, 3 out of our 5 weekday meals are often vegetarian. We both enjoy all kinds of food, and love experimenting, so when Goodlife got in touch to ask if I would mind reviewing some of their frozen vegetarian options, I jumped at the chance!
Goodlife are passionate about vegetables and source the healthiest produce from farmers all over the UK. They use these finest ingredients to create delicious vegetarian meals for customers to enjoy easily at home.
Designed for everyone, Goodlife food is great for those taking part in Meat-Free Monday, eat a range of different food like us, or full-time vegetarians.
With a range of different frozen options available, we tried their Vegetable Masala, French Bean & Spinach Sausages, Mushroom & Spinach Kiev and Falafel.
I’ll start with the star of the show first – the Mushroom & Spinach Kiev. These are absolutely delicious! Chopped mushrooms and tender spinach are combined to make a kiev oozing with a creamy garlic and cheese sauce, and coated in a crunchy seeded breadcrumb. I’m not normally a fan of meat kievs but these were something else! We served ours with a simple pea, onion and chilli rice, and a little steamed broccoli for extra veg. A box includes 4 kievs – perfect for families.
Next up we have Vegetable Masala with Cauliflower Rice. These are 1 per box, so are great if you live alone, and feature a full meal so you don’t need to buy any other ingredients. However, of course we added spinach and chopped coriander – it wouldn’t be us if we didn’t add another vegetable to a dish!
The masala is packed full of flavour, combining sweet potato, red peppers, coconut milk, tomatoes and Indian spices. If you haven’t had cauliflower rice before, it’s literally grated cauliflower, which looks just like rice when cooked! Together, this dish contains 3 of your 5 a day – super healthy!
And finally, we have the French Bean & Spinach Sausages, which combine crisp French beans, sweet petit pois, spinach, a little nutmeg and a mild, crumbly Wensleydale. Which together, create a sausage that once cut open looks better than any sausage I’ve seen before! The colours and textures are amazing. I’m not a fan of meat sausages, but I absolutely love these! We mixed ours into a tomato, red pepper and mushroom tagliatelle. However, since then we’ve also added them to a more creamy pasta dish, with asparagus, peas and parsley, and they taste just as good.
Goodlife also stock a number of other flavoured sausages, including – Cauliflower & Mature Cheddar, Tomato & Mozzarella, Beetroot & Feta (really want to try these next!) and Leak & Caerphilly.
All in all, we’re both really impressed with the Goodlife products we’ve tried. You can view their full range online here and are available at Sainsbury’s, Ocado, Waitrose, Morrisons and Iceland.
