The Grounds of Alexandria, The Potting Shed, Sydney, Australia

Warning this is a photo heavy post! I got a little snap happy when Stew and I had lunch at The Grounds of Alexandria this week. This place is so popular in Sydney with tourists and locals alike. It's kind of like a garden centre crossed with a florist crossed with a trendy bar crossed with a quirky cafe. It's all very hipster and cool.

They even have their own pig aptly named Kevin Bacon. Not only is there Mr Bacon but also goats and chickens making this place perfect for both adults and children. After reading hundreds of rave reviews I was so excited to visit. At weekends they have lots of food and craft stalls turning the venue into more of a market. But at weekends you can expect queues to get in and wait times of up to 3 hours to get a table for food!! Crazy! So we went on a Monday and it was still busy but you could easily have a loo around at everything.

My favourite spot had to be the potting shed selling hundreds of stunning flowers, jams, spreads, herbs and granola. Everything is locally produced and packaged beautifully. The rainbow coloured roses were my favourite but at $8 each I didn't get to purchase one.
After exploring we headed into the main cafe for lunch. I went for their classic beef brisket burger with beer battered chips, while Stew chose the chicken pie. Drinks wise Stew's is the fancy ginger beer with mint leaves and mine was a non alcoholic apple cider. Tasty!

The cafe also boasts a range of handmade cakes, patisseries and bread. All of which tempted my taste buds but we so full from lunch that we resisted the temptation... this time. If we go back I'll definitely want to purchase a couple of sweet treats. They all looked phenomenal.
If you're ever in Sydney this place is definitely worth this small train ride from the city centre. It's a little hard to find but that's what Google maps are for! And I find it's always the best places that are hidden away from the main tourist spots.
